The salesian family is a group of ecclesiastics spread all over the world, based on the charisma of Don Bosco, the founder. Actually it consists of 30 officially recognized groups with 402,500 members who live in mutual communion.
These groups are made of lots of people who work for young people in different ways: San Francesco di Sales’ society (Don Bosco Salesians), the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters), and the Association of Salesian Cooperators.
The Rector Major, successor of Don Bosco, is the spiritual Father of the Community. The communion of the Congregation is supported by the Consultative Body od the Salesian Family that meets every year.
The “Charter of Identity of the Salesian Family” , a document that includes the identification lines of the groups-
affirms that one of the parameters to recognize a new group is “the communion of the spirit, of the educational method and of the missionary style that is the spiritual and the pedagogical heritage of Don Bosco.don Francesco Cereda – Vicar of the Major Rector
